Peter Power – New Dance Energy EP

Shika Shika is delighted to present a new LP by one of the bright talents that rode the downtempo wave. In New Dance Energy, Peter Power offers us rich soundscapes that blossom with pulsating grooves, deep meditative vocals, playful flutes, and glitched out beats. His global sound is immersed in a growing sensitivity of presence, where cultivating a deep awareness with one’s surroundings is at the heart of the process. Finding perpetual inspiration in organic motion and the alchemical forces of nature.

After taking a much needed hiatus from the dance floor, taking the time and space to delve into slow living, deep listening, fatherhood and the simple joy of playing instruments. New Dance Energy marks something of a return, with Peter’s first dance orientated release in 5 years.

On this release, Peter sways away from habitual four to the floor archetypes. Taking inspiration in lower chakra liberating, body shaking Afro-Brazilian & Dancehall rhythms. Playfully contrasting with soft and wholesome tones, uplifting mantras and traditional flute playing.
With the intention to bridge the hard hitting modern urban sound with the gentle, holistic and folkloric realms. A striking departure from his usual drawn out, slow burning, meditative style… Exploring short and direct composition , with the average track length on the album teetering in around 4mins. Seven bite sized beauties to sink your teeth into.

20 % of all royalties will go towards Projeto Sapucaia.
A regenerative agro-reforestation project in the valley of Raposa, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil. A community initiative that Peter is involved in since 2016. The money collected will go towards maintenance of the agro-forest, to the recently established cultural centre and to the continual reforestation of new areas of the land. Revitalising the conditions for it to flourish how it once was as part of the Mata-Atlantica rainforest.
