After tallying up the numbers we are blown away to share that \u201cA Guide to the Birdsong\u201d is able to donate another $32,000 USD to help endangered birds in South America, Central America and Western Africa. This takes the total raised by the project to over 80,000 USD thus far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is all thanks to YOU! To everyone that backed the Kickstarter, bought the vinyl, listened to the album and proudly wore the t-shirt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Missed out on a vinyl? Our latest album \u201cA Guide to the Birdsong of Western Africa\u201d raised $18,000 USD to date and that will be shared between three inspiring, unique and impactful projects helping save endangered birds and their habitats in the region. Discover more about our beneficiaries below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shikashika.org\/birdsong\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Screen-Shot-2022-12-15-at-11.03.18-AM-1024x465.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Nigerian Bird Atlas Project (NiBAP)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nigeria.birdmap.africa\/\">Nigerian Bird Atlas Project<\/a> (NiBAP) is a citizen science initiative of the A.P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI) aimed at promoting public participation in bird and biodiversity conservation through bird watching and atlasing. NiBAP recruits, trains and organizes nature enthusiasts into bird and nature clubs.&nbsp; Through this project, over 1,000 young Nigerians have been recruited into bird clubs that the project has helped establish across the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our donations will help fund field expeditions to survey local bird species, training for additional citizen volunteers, and the purchase of binoculars and other field equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shikashika.org\/birdsong\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IBC_1-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption><em>Photo credit: NiBAP<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Association Nature Koussabel (ANAK)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Association Nature Koussabel (ANAK) is a fledgling NGO in Senegal, developed in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/savingcranes.org\/\">International Crane Foundation<\/a> and the Endangered Wildlife Trust. The organization focuses on monitoring the rare and beautiful Black crowned crane in the Casamance region of south-west Senegal. The work of ANAK is doubly important: not only is it yielding a better understanding of the threats facing Black Crowned Cranes the area, but the increased understanding the team is gaining will be of great assistance to the ICF and other conservationists as and when circumstances allow them to increase their protection of the Black Crowned Cranes in the rest of their range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funds from \u201cA Guide to the Birdsong\u201d will subsidise ongoing crane monitoring to identify threats to the species, as well as training of local communities in climate-smart farming practices that support crane conservation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shikashika.org\/birdsong\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Screen-Shot-2022-12-15-at-10.48.41-AM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"961\" height=\"307\"\/><figcaption><em>Photo credit: ICF &amp; ANAK<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shikashika.org\/birdsong\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Copy-of-WhatsApp-Image-2022-05-26-at-1.35.15-AM-1024x625.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gulf of Guinea Biodiversity Center (GGBC)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Republic of S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe, Africa\u2019s second smallest country, is home to 27 bird species found nowhere else on the planet. Composed of two main volcanic islands in the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, the archipelago, possesses large and lush areas of native rainforest rich in endemic species and varied biodiversity like the bird S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 Grosbeak. The <a href=\"https:\/\/gulfofguineabiodiversity.org\/\">Gulf of Guinea Biodiversity Center<\/a> facilitates research, education and conservation of the unique diversity of plants and animals on the islands of S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe in close collaboration with Birdlife Africa, the world&#8217;s largest nature conservation partnership.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to your support our donations will help with the training of additional full-time \u201cguardians of the forest\u201d, who carry out important species monitoring and law enforcement in the natural park of S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9, which is home to many bird species that occur nowhere else in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shikashika.org\/birdsong\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Guardians-AnneDelestrade-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption><em>Photo credit: GGBC<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If that wasn\u2019t enough, we are also very proud to share that we are able to continue donating to projects in South America from <a href=\"https:\/\/shikashika.bandcamp.com\/album\/a-guide-to-the-birdsong-of-south-america\">Volume I<\/a> and to our partners in Mexico, Central America &amp; the Caribbean from <a href=\"https:\/\/shikashika.bandcamp.com\/album\/a-guide-to-the-birdsong-of-mexico-central-america-the-caribbean\">Volume II<\/a>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>South America<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In South America we will once again support the fantastic work of <a href=\"https:\/\/efeef51d-e43a-4830-b388-e818891b8c03.usrfiles.com\/ugd\/efeef5_c7169ec029364a93b04e5a17ff5b695d.pdf\">SalvaMontes<\/a>, a small conservation NGO working in Colombia\u2019s tropical Andes with a donation of $5,000 USD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean we will split $9,000 USD between our three fantastic beneficiaries: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdscaribbean.org\/\">Birds Caribbean<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.txori.org\/\">Fundaci\u00f3n Txori<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avesdecostarica.org\/\">Asociaci\u00f3n Ornitol\u00f3gica de Costa Rica<\/a>.
