A platform for culture, community and collaborative change.
Mission
Shika Shika seeks to create an inclusive, global movement that empowers artists, celebrates cultural migrations and embraces the power of music and art to drive change.
Vision
We believe in the power of borderless culture, strong community and creative collaboration to bring about lasting change.
Shika Shika aims to unite a flourishing community of composers, creatives and passionate listeners connected by their interest in diversity, beautiful music and the need for social and environmental justice.
Alongside releasing exciting new music exploring global folk roots, organic sounds and electronica, Shika Shika will become a people-powered and community-funded platform. We will develop unique projects where the music, art and culture that inspire us can come together in service of the social and environmental issues we are passionate about.
Our Story
Electronic music producers Agustín Rivaldo (Barrio Lindo) and Robin Perkins (El Buho) founded Shika Shika in 2015 as a platform to help emerging artists release their music. It began with the conviction that a label is meant to serve the artists and not the other way around, and to this day remains one of the few independent labels to give over two thirds of profits directly to the artists.
Since then, the label has released music from over 60 artists from 30 countries, including 36 digital and 10 vinyl releases. Its iconic non-profit projects, such as the A Guide to the Birdsong series and the multi-label compilation Mamazonia: Odes to the Forest have gained worldwide recognition as innovative examples of musical activism.
In 2020 Buenos Aires based researcher, musician and luthier Melissa Foss joined the team and Shika Shika was registered as a non-profit asociation with a base in France. This is to allow the platform to extend its non-profit work alongside the label.
