On behalf of the birds: thank you!

Just over six months since the launch of “A Guide to the Birdsong of Mexico, Central America, & the Caribbean” we are extremely happy and proud to announce the album has, so far, made a profit of just over $30,000 USD! This is all thanks to YOU for buying the album, vinyl or merchandise.

This means we will be able to donate $8,000 USD to each of our three partner NGOs as well as $6,000 USD to a further organisation in South America (SalvaMontes in Colombia). We also expect these amounts will continue to rise due to streaming revenue and ongoing interest which is wonderful news at a time we could all really use it.

In Central America we are working with La Asociación Ornitológica de Costa Rica, a non-profit that focuses on the research and protection of birds and their habitats in Costa Rica. The Birdsong project will help fund the organisation’s education programme, purchasing materials such as books, bird guides and binoculars for workshops with young people.

We have partnered with Birds Caribbean who work across the region to raise awareness about bird protection, promote research and engage with local partners. We will help fund the “Caribbean Birding Trail”, a project to train local guides, restore sites for visitors and demonstrate the economic benefits of birding for local communities.

Finally, in Mexico, we partnered with the Fundación TXORI, an NGO with the aim of saving endangered bird species in Mexico through its rescue, rehabilitation and re-release programme.  The donation will help keep the birds healthy during the COVID pandemic, fund the construction of new birdhouses and further research towards the organisation’s release programme.

Listen to our special podcast to find out more about these organisations and how the money will be spent.

We are also very happy to announce that we have a limited number of vinyl records available once more exclusively on Bandcamp!

The T-shirts and A3 Prints are now available from the new Shika Shika Store (see below) in case you didn’t get one or would like to give a gift to a special someone to help celebrate the end of 2020. However, we unfortunately cannot guarantee delivery before Christmas.

Lastly, we have EVEN MORE EXCITING NEWS to share: Shika Shika is now registered as a non-profit association in France, allowing us to evolve and expand upon the energy we felt behind the Birdsong project.

Our vision is to focus on more campaigns where the music, art and culture that inspire us come together in service of the social and environmental issues we are passionate about. We would love to have your support on this new journey and have just set up our Donation page, allowing you to support Shika Shika for a very small monthly fee as little as 5 Euros.

This will help us to begin realising the many project ideas we have been dreaming of for years, but not yet had the resources to make happen. .
